ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every Mount Storm Volunteer Fire Department member that responded to these calls send their thoughts and condolences to everyone touched by these incidents.

Two Calls Same Dispatch

On 5-31-2010 at 1500 Hrs The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for two seperate cals at approximately the same time. Engine Rescue 150 and Brush 150 responded. The first call was a single vehicle accident with two priority 3 patients on Route 93. The second call was a subject injured while tubing on Mt Storm Lake. Units on scene Engine Rescue 150, Brush 150 (Mt Storm Fire), Ambulance 4471, Ambulance 4372 (Mathias Baker).

Single Vehicle MVA With Entrapment

On 5-29-2010 at 0345 Hrs The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a single vehicle MVA on Route 42 South Scherr Mountain. Engine Rescue 150 and Engine Tanker 150 responded. Crews arrived on scene to find a tractor trailer on its side 20 feet down the side of Scherr Mountain with 1 patient entrapped in the vehicle and 1 patient sitting on top of the vehicle the tractor trailer was hauling sawdust. Crews from Engine Rescue 150 and Engine Tanker 150 along with assistance from Company 200 (Maysville Fire) extricated the two patients from the truck and set up a rope hauling system to get them up the steep bank. Crews remained on the scene for 3 Hours. Units on scene Engine Rescue 150, Engine Tanker 150 (Mt Storm Fire), Company 200 (Maysville Fire).

Station 150 Alerted For The Vehicle Fire

On 5-25-2010 at 0750 Hrs The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire on Route 50 East of Mt Storm. Engine Rescue 150 and Engine Tanker 150 responded. Crews arrived on scene to find the cab fully involved of a tri axle dump truck loaded with coal. Crews extinguished the fire and prevented extension of the fire into the dump bed and load of coal. Crews remained on the scene for 90 minutes. Units on scene Engine Rescue 150, Engine Tanker 150 (Mt Storm Fire), Engine Tanker 140 (Elk Garden Fire)

Station 150 Alerted For The Mutual Assist

On 4-19-2010 at 1427 Hrs The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Elk Garden Volunteer Fire Company (140) with an unknown type fire. Tanker 150 and Brush 150 responded. Crews arrived on scene and with the help of the Maryland State Police Helicopter (Trooper 5) were able to locate a 2 acre brush fire at a hunting camp on Schell Road. Crews remained on the scene for 2 1/2 Hours. Units on scene Brush 150, Tanker 150 (Mt Storm Fire), Brush 140, Tanker 140, Mini-Pumper 140 (Elk Garden Fire), Brush 38 (New Creek Fire), Brush 139 (Bayard Fire), WV Forestry Service, and Trooper 5. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Station 150 Alerted Request Of The Grant County Sheriff's Office

On 1-30-2010 at 1715 Hrs The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was requested by the Grant County Sheriff's Office to Grassy Ridge Road in Mt Storm for possible injuries of two individuals that had base jumped from a wind mill. Mathias Baker 4471 also responded. Crews quickly arrived on scene to locate the subjects in thier vehicle uninjured. Crews had the vehicle blocked in so they could not leave until law enforcement arrived. EMS Crew obtained signed refusals and all units cleared the scene.

Three Mutual Aid Calls Within Three Hours For The 150 House

On 1-28-2010 The Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Companies First call of three was the mutual aid with the Davis Volunteer Fire Company to Route 93 1 mile into Tucker County two commercial vehicle accident with fuel spill. Captain Rick Harding responded to the scene and requested that the spill response trailer be brought to the scene. Engine/Tanker 150, Brush 150 with the spill response trailer responded. Crews quickly worked to contain the leaking diesel fuel with the construction of underflow dikes, dams, and absorbent materials. Crews were on scene for approximately 3 hrs.
Tucker County EMS, Three units from the Davis Volunteer Fire Dept and the Tucker County OES Director were also on the scene.

Two Calls For The Mutual Aid With Elk Garden

On 1-28-2010 The second call of the three for the Mt Storm Volunteer Fire Company was the mutual aid with the Elk Garden Volunteer Fire Company at the intersection of Route 42 and Route 50 for the single vehicle accident. The Third Call of the three was the mutual aid with the Elk Garden Volunteer Fire Company for the vehicle accident 3 mles west of the intersection of Route 42 and Route 50. Again all three of the calls were mutual aid and occured within three hours.
